Driving sustainable growth
Idemitsu Australia is investing in sustainable energy and assessing renewable resources including solar, water, wind, wave, geothermal, and biofuels. We have set clear climate targets, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by 7.3 million tonnes (46%) between 2013 and 2030, on a pathway to carbon neutrality by 2050.
Guided by our values, we actively pursue growth opportunities, operate with integrity, and continually challenge ourselves. These principles underpin our commitment to strong environmental, social and governance priorities and to being a reliable, long-term business partner.
As the global energy system transitions toward net zero, we have invested in strategic partnerships with Vecco Group, Graphinex, Delta Lithium, and Critical Minerals Group. These investments support diversification, innovation, and the decarbonisation of our energy portfolio.
Our approach to ESG focuses on long-term value — driving innovation, managing environmental risk, supporting people and communities, and maintaining transparent and responsible governance.
Decarbonisation
Idemitsu Australia recognises the important role we must play in helping the world achieve its decarbonisation ambitions.
As we reduce our own carbon emissions, we will continue to build low-carbon businesses, and provide products and solutions to assist our customers’ decarbonisation journeys.
Our decarbonisation priorities will focus on progressive mine rehabilitation, generating biodiversity offsets, investing in critical mineral opportunities and developing renewable energy generation projects.
Renewables
Idemitsu Australia is developing renewable power projects to benefit regional communities socially and economically, with a focus on hybrid renewable energy technologies surrounding green hydrogen, solar, pumped hydro, and developments towards the progression of biomass.
Critical Minerals
Idemitsu Australia’s strategic investments in lithium and vanadium business partnerships support their global energy transition to an electrification and decarbonisation phase. With the growing demand for critical minerals we continue to pursue opportunities in energy-related critical minerals and rare earths including lithium, vanadium, copper, nickel and graphite.
Mining
Proud of the social and economic benefits Boggabri Coal Mine has created for regional communities, the mine produces up to 7 million tonnes of coal per annum, with a mine life to 2036, and supports a workforce of around 875 employees, most of who live locally with their families.
Fuel
Idemitsu acquired Freedom Fuels in 2012, a business with a shared history in fuel and a mission to explore biofuels. Freedom Fuels is now one of the leading independent fuel importers and wholesalers in Southeast Queensland. They provide employment for over 600 staff members throughout Queensland and New South Wales while providing reliable, competitive, high quality fuel supply to its expanding wholesale and loyal customer bases.
